Overview
"Waste is just a resource in the wrong place." This intern works to prove that adage true. The Waste Management & Circular Economy Intern is responsible for the "Zero Waste" goal of the Planet Run. You will ensure that the event leaves no trace and educates the community on the principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
Key Responsibilities
Design the waste management plan for the event, ensuring adequate bins and signage.
Supervise the segregation team during the event to ensure wet, dry, and recyclable waste are not mixed.
Coordinate with local recyclers or composters to responsibly process the collected waste.
Organize "Swap Meets" or "Upcycling Workshops" as side events.
Conduct a post-event waste audit to publish a "Waste Report Card" sharing how much was diverted from landfills.
Skills & Qualifications
Strong aversion to litter and passion for circular economy.
Willingness to get hands dirty (literally) to ensure segregation.
Environmental Science, Waste Management, Social Work, or Engineering students.
Ability to guide volunteers on proper waste handling.
Learning Opportunities
Expertise in executing Zero Waste events (a growing requirement globally).
Practical knowledge of recycling chains and waste processing.
